Center Description:
The Ocean Hyperbaric Neurologic Center has been operational since 1972. It is the first center in this country to treat only neurology. Richard A. Neubauer, M.D., Medical Director, has traveled virtually all around the world presenting papers and has a total of sixty-nine publications on hyperbaric oxygenation, primarily in neurology. The center utilizes twelve completely refurbished Vickers monoplace chambers; six clamshells and six horizontal.

In-house single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) scanning is performed on all patients before, during, and after hyperbaric oxygenation treatments. This center was the first to use and publish SPECT scanning to document changes in blood flow and metabolism. An evaluation of this data by Nova Southeastern Medical School has indicated a high correlation between clinical improvement and changes in the scans (in press).
